Why Are Sweepertec Frames Hot-Dip Galvanised?

Farmyards, recycling centres, construction sites and industrial yards can expose equipment to rain, mud, grit, fertiliser residues, slurry, road salt and prolonged outdoor storage.

Hot-dip galvanising provides a durable zinc coating over the steel, helping protect the frame against corrosion during normal use. It requires more preparation than simply applying paint, but it is particularly well suited to equipment expected to work outdoors and withstand rough handling.
What Is Hot-Dip Galvanising?
Hot-dip galvanising is a process in which a finished steel component is cleaned and immersed in a molten zinc bath.
The main stages generally include:

Allowing the zinc coating to cool and solidify

During immersion, zinc reacts with the steel surface.
This creates a series of zinc-iron alloy layers, finished with an outer layer of zinc. The coating is therefore metallurgically bonded to the steel rather than simply sitting on top of it like paint.
How Does Galvanising Protect Steel?
A galvanised coating protects steel in two important ways.
It Creates a Physical Barrier
The zinc coating separates the steel from moisture and oxygen, both of which are required for ordinary rusting to occur.
Hot-dip galvanising also provides coverage around accessible corners, edges, welds and fabricated sections.
This is useful on a Sweepertec frame because it contains welded joints, fork pockets, retaining features and steel sections that regularly encounter water, mud and debris.
It Provides Sacrificial Protection
Zinc is more reactive than steel.

Why Is Galvanising Useful in Agriculture?
Agricultural machinery can face several different forms of corrosion.
The surrounding environment matters, but so do the substances being handled.
Fertilisers, slurry, manure, silage juices and some cleaning chemicals can all attack poorly protected steel. Moisture can make the problem worse, particularly when corrosive material remains trapped around welds, bolt holes, joints and areas that do not drain properly.

Galvanising provides strong and practical protection, but customers should still clean and maintain their equipment.

How Should a Galvanised Sweepertec Be Maintained?
The frame does not require repainting as part of normal maintenance, but regular cleaning will help extend its working life.

Hose the frame down with clean water after contact with corrosive material

Allow the equipment to drain and dry

Avoid leaving wet debris trapped around fork pockets, retaining pins and joints

Store the equipment away from concentrated chemicals where practical
Areas that remain damp and dirty are more likely to suffer corrosion than clean, well-drained surfaces.
A few minutes spent cleaning the attachment after demanding work can therefore make a significant difference to its long-term condition.
